At the same latitude that the Corsica cape and of a surface of 20 hectares, the Domain of Arbutus, first Reserve Natural " Volunteer " of the Var and green lung of Héliopolis, constitute a remarkable wild, propertied whole at a time a superb dense plant cover and a big wealth flowers and faunistique.
A trail nature has been drawn there, demarcated of fourteen stations to theme describing his/her/its numerous rare, endemic and protected species through the different characteristic surroundings of the Mediterranean insular vegetation:
• On lawns " of orchids (sérapias to small flowers, gigantic orchis, intact néotinée), the elegant thistle to three
• Under the scrub composed of arbutus, tree heather, nerprunses, lentisqueses, myrtle and rosemaries: of orchids (the limodore to aborted leaves and the helléborine to large leaves), of ferns as the doradine to oval leaves; in the sandy paths: the small gaillet.
• In the zone of the oléolentisque or " coastal " bush the maritime germandrée or grass to cats, the germandrée of Marseilles or grass to the apple, the tree euphorbe.
• On the inshore border: the dwarf statice, the navy ciste, the immortal stoechas, Florent's romulée. Although to 200 meters of the Voluntary Natural Reserve in cliffs of the sea side the dauphinelle of Reguien requires all as many cares and the surveillant of the domain and scientists. The reserve attracts many sedentary birds (chaff inch, warbler, green finch) migratory wintering (robin, red - tail black, wren huppé and triple - headband troglodyte, pouillot véloce) and migratory passengers (thrush, turtledove of woods, bergeronnette, crest fasciée, guêpier and swallow of chimney).
Woods rotted of the scrub encourage a varied entomofaune (orycte - rhinoceros, capricorne, purple xylocope, bostryche to hood or golden cétoine). Bushes of the scrub and flowers captivate many butterflies (jason, sphinx, swallowtail, flamed or lemon of Provence), of beetles (mylabre, clyte or bupreste). Praying mantis, phasmes and cicadas (plebeian cicada and cicada " orni ") find wild and rocky era of the site is auspicious to reptiles (snakes of Montpellier or to echelons, lizard of defensive walls and two species of geckos (: the hémidactyle and the phyllodactyle). The small pools of soft water in side of sea are favorable to the reproduction of a discreet amphibien: discoglosse sarde. The stake in Natural Reserve in 1993 permitted to protect these even intact magnificent landscapes as well as this fauna and this exceptional flora that constitute an unique and irreplaceable heritage definitely.
